Pro-Poor Tourism Project in Quan Ba, Ha Giang Province
The project takes place in Ha Giang, one of the poorest provinces in Vietnam. 85-90% of the inhabitants are ethnic minority farmers, living on subsistence agriculture. The land is mainly karst with a poor thin layer of soil. High human pressure on land, water shortages and deforestation are a combination of factors that limit people to improve their livelihood through agriculture. Forest management, off-farm activities and rural family business, like tourism, are potential alternatives for development of income generation and reducing poverty.
